This is a really interesting calculator. I don’t understand though how the bottom 1% can be defined as making $2,500. I have been thinking about percentiles of income based on the amount a household makes regarding the Wall Street movement. I think it makes more sense that way because the bottom 1% being people who earn $2,500 have to be kids who are working for the summer or part time during the year, or a spouse who is taking low paying work to help out with the bills. If we count that it is a less compelling argument made by the protesters because then they are just arguing for increased wages instead of showing the disparity between 99% and the 1%.

I don’t think that the bottom 1% are kids because the calculator says to enter “household income.” If the kids are working for part-time or a spouse is working part-time, it would contribute to household income. Perhaps it is unfathomable to us, but this is actually the extreme?

    My household is at 81%.

I am very curious about the rest of the class.

    Another version, but global.
